Laughter is the best medicine

A baby laughs 400 times a day. Adolescent boys and girls laugh 17 times a day. Some adults don’t laugh even once in a day. How sad! I doubt if our society discourages laughter particularly among women. Such women can smile at their husband, brother, sister or children if not at a colleague or a stranger.

Today, modern man confronts stressful situations many times a day and so chemical reactions are also frequent. The burden of debts, health problems, troubles at home, dispute over properties failure of children etc. drain our energy. Because of this people lose their cheerfulness. But continued depression leads to a reduction in our resistance to diseases.
Laughter is the best medicine. While laughing positive chemical changes take place in our body and our tense muscles relax. The muscles that work to smile are the muscles that relax our face. While laughing our lungs expand and take in more oxygen and this extra oxygen is distributed to our body. While laughing, our brain secretes a hormone called endorphin which makes us feel happy for a longer time and thus we are relieved of our stress.
