You have seen that when someone has conjunctivitis (Madras Eye). It will soon spread to other members of your family. Even common cold and other viral infections spread to other members of the family very quickly. These are contagious diseases.
You can avoid contracting most of these diseases by following basic hygiene. If a person affected with a vital disease sneezes in front of you, you will also get infected with that diseases. By avoiding close contact with the affected person, many contagious diseases can be prevented. Many people don’t realize that they should not even drink water from a tumbler used by an infected person. Recently, in a wedding hall, a man offered me his handkerchief to wipe my hands; He did not even realize how unhygienic it is to use other person’s hand kerchief. He would certainly have passed on the disease causing germ along with the handkerchief to me. Some people don’t even know that they should not use the clothing and utensils used by a person affected by a contagious disease. Disease can also spread through a person who is serving food using his bare hands. In most families, food is served with bare hands. This is wrong because this is one of the easiest ways of spreading the infection.
